Frequently Asked Questions and our Answers!

What is the purpose of the Discovery Class?
The DC is designed to explain, orient and inform people who desire membership at Christ the Shepherd about our church.

When is it held?
Saturday morning: 8:00 am – noon
Sunday afternoon: 12:15 – 2:00 pm (includes lunch)

How often is the Discovery Class held?
Depending on how many people are interested, we try to hold four Discovery Class weekends a year (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall).

Is there childcare?
Yes, for children through 5th grade. We ask that you please let us know how many and what sessions you will need childcare. Our children are included with us in the luncheon on Sunday, after which they are dismissed to their own activities.

What do people wear?
We ask people to come casual and comfortable.

What do I need to bring?
The only thing we might think of is your Bible. If you don’t have one, we will provide you with one at the Class.

What is the Class like?
The Discovery Class is designed to be very relational. Woven into the presentations about our ministry are many opportunities to meet and get to know a lot of wonderful people. You will undoubtedly make new friends from among your Class. Introductions are made to staff and some key leaders through the weekend! Also there is time given for any questions you might have about CTS, its purpose, beliefs, values, etc. You will have an opportunity to meet our staff and some key leaders. Doors to ministry and interest will be opened. Hospitality awaits; we have multiple times to eat and share together. The Discovery Class weekend creates a “retreat-like” atmosphere. It’s fun.

Do I have to read or speak in front of people?
No, only if you want to. There are informal times of sharing with others, but no pressure is ever given by asking someone to read or answer publicly.

Can a person join CTS after attending the Discovery Class?
Every person who has attended the DC and who has examined and agreed to our Membership Covenant (explained in the Class) is eligible for membership at CTS.

What is a membership Covenant?
It is the promise between two parties to live in agreement with one another based on mutual beliefs and expectations. CTS agrees to live up to what it says are its purpose, mission, and values under God and His Word. The member agrees to support the church according to the CTS purpose and strategy statements. This meeting of mind and heart between the two parties leads to a fruitful and productive relationship.

How does a person join CTS after taking the Discovery Class?
On a designated Sunday a week or two after the Class, new members are received in one of our morning worship services. At that time each new member is introduced to the congregation so that further connections between people can happen.
